In the following letter to students, Dr. Roberta Ness, Chair of the Department of Epidemiology, presents an overview of the March 2008 online Student Survey results. The Survey was conducted by the Student Faculty Liaison Committee, a group dedicated to fostering communication among faculty and students, increasing student satisfaction by acting upon their input and monitoring student experiences to ensure they meet high standards as set forth by the department.

Public Health Prevention Service – Fellowship Opportunities
In 1997, the CDC established the Public Health Prevention Service (PHPS) in an attempt to address the workforce gap in public health management positions at the federal, state and local levels.

Doctoral Programs
Improved Teaching Practicum Experience Process
Doctoral students who began their programs in fall 2004 and thereafter are required to register for a Teaching Practicum experience (EPIDEM 2215) prior to their graduation. Master’s program students who matriculated prior to fall 2004 and were subsequently accepted into a doctoral program in fall 2004 or thereafter are also required to register for this experience.

We appreciate Christy Lawson’s interest in informing the department about the first GSPH Volunteer, Internship and Career Day. Christy is a DrPH student and Student Government Association (SGA) Co-President.
On Friday, February 29, 2008, student leaders from the Student Government Association (SGA), the Minority Student Organization (MSO), and staff from the Career Services Office at the Graduate School of Public Health (GSPH) were host to twenty-two agencies for the first annual Volunteer, Internship, and Career Day. This event was open to all master’s and doctoral degree students within the school.
