Journal Clubs/Seminars
Journal Clubs
Journal clubs are effective forums for our students and faculty to become familiar with public heath and epidemiologic literature, as well as strategies for critically evaluating it. Much can be learned from the efforts and experiences of others about research design, statistical methods, appropriateness of techniques utilized, etc. Journal clubs also provide opportunities for students to debate current topics of epidemiologic interest.
Seminars
Once each week in fall and spring terms, a Seminar in Epidemiology (EPIDEM 2250) is held in A115 Crabtree Hall. All Epidemiology students and faculty are encouraged to attend. Members of the University of Pittsburgh health sciences community are invited to participate as well. Areas of current interest in epidemiology research are presented by a varying slate of experts, with the goal of providing attendees with new perspectives on activities and advances in the field.
A post seminar discussion is held after each seminar presentation, and refreshments are served. Announcements of all
seminar topics and speakers each term are posted on the department’s website.
